Remember when I told you it's been a crazy month or so? Well, I wasn't kidding.
July 27th we found out our offer on our house was accepted.
The morning of July 30th I took a pregnancy test and finally got a positive!
August 6th was our one year anniversary.
August 28th we closed on our home.
August 31st we had our first prenatal appointment and we got to hear the most beautiful sound ever -- a strong, healthy heartbeat coming from our Little Bug.
If you've been a reader of this blog for a while, you have probably figured out that we didn't get pregnant right off the bat (like I thought we would). Of course, looking back now I see why it wasn't a good time for us before and as always He has a better plan than I ever could've dreamed of.
However, I realize it didn't take us long to get pregnant in the grand scheme of things and compared to others who struggle with infertility. But even so, I know what it's like to want something so bad that it hurts. For that reason I won't ever take for granted this little blessing. Even if Little Bug is the only child we ever have, I will be forever grateful because I know the heartache of that want and I know the joy of finally being blessed with it.
With that being said, I'd like to finally re-cap the past month of my pregnancy.
The morning of July 30th I was only one day late. A couple months prior I had been five days late and got negative after negative pregnancy tests. Talk about a bummer! So when I got up at 4am to pee on that Monday morning, I figured 'What the hell? I'll just go ahead and use this last pregnancy test. I know I'm not pregnant anyways.'
So I pee on the stick, set it aside to wash my hands. I pick up said stick and look at it and for the first time EVER the "no" was not in front of "pregnant." I seriously could not believe it. I looked in the mirror at myself (which was kind of a scary sight considering I just rolled out of bed) rubbed my eyes, looked back at the stick and looked at myself in the mirror again and just chuckled.
Then I started shaking. I think it was shock. So I take the stick, go into our room, crack the closet door and turn the closet light on so I wouldn't blind Kevin and I whisper his name, "Kevin." He doesn't wake up. "Kevin." He wakes with a start and says "What? What's wrong?" and I say "I'm pregnant." And he says "What?" and I said "I'm pregnant." And then he chuckled opened his arms and I hugged him and started bawling and we had our little moment.
After I was able to settle down I didn't really know what else to do with myself. Given that it was 4am I crawled back into bed and my heart was beating so fast. For the next two hours I wasn't able to fall back to sleep and I started thinking about this little baby; and worrying about if we would be able to swing buying a new home and having a baby all within an eight month span, and what if this home fell through? Then what would we do? So basically, I started worrying immediately. Ha!
So I prayed. I prayed A LOT. I prayed that most importantly the baby would be healthy and survive. Especially, during all this stress of trying to close escrow on the house. I tend to be one of those people that thinks the worst of things. I can't help it but I'm working on it.
As for the past five weeks I'll tell you that weeks four through six I felt great! I didn't really feel pregnant at all, except for the fact that I had to pee constantly, my boobs hurt and I was hungry all the time. I thought 'This is easy! I can totally do this for eight more months - and probably like two more times!' Such a naive girl I was am.
Week six hit and so did the nausea. Nothing sounded good to me at all. All the books and advice online say to make sure to eat many small meals throughout the day, but when nothing sounds good what do you do??? The only way I can describe it is you know that feeling the day after a good partying and you're hungover? And you know you should eat something to help with that feeling in your gut but you just can't figure out what to eat that would make you feel better? Or if you could just throw up you'd feel so much better? That's how I've felt 24/7. However, I have yet to vomit. So I consider myself lucky in that respect.
At about seven-and-a-half weeks the exhaustion hit me like a ton of bricks. I pretty much have to take a nap every day, and if I don't get a nap in I am not fun to be around come evening-time. And when I do take naps I could literally sleep from that point on until the following day. It hasn't happended yet, but I have no doubt I could make it work. ;) Ha! I've been going to bed about 9 o'clock each night (which is early for me - I'm usually an 11 o'clock or 12 o'clock kind of gal).
Once eight weeks hit I finally got my appetite back, somewhat. I still have some days where I just can't stomach anything, but I've learned that as long as I don't think about the food too much (like what it looks like, the texture and smell) that I can just eat it and move on.
So today I am nine weeks pregnant. My due date is April 8th.
I refer to this little blob as "he" and I will until I'm told otherwise. I just feel in my gut he's a "he." And if he isn't and we end up with a precious little girl, I'll be just as thrilled. I refer to this little guy as Little Bug or Bug. My dad calls me Bug and I just feel like it's fitting for this little one too.
Kevin has been a dream! He is so excited and has been trying to do anything he can to make sure I'm comfortable and taken care of. I know he's going to be the best dad.
Next week I'm going to start my weekly updates. I always enjoy reading other ones and I'd like to keep a record for myself and my family.
Thank you to everyone who has been so excited for us. We are so grateful for all the great wishes ya'll have sent our way.
Here's to the next chapter!
xoxo,
