Dog Days

Our dogs are like our children and I think they deserve a little shout-out on this fine Friday.

Last night I had the dogs up on the bed while I was packing and doing laundry. I usually give Stella her bone just to keep her occupied while she’s up there. Well, Kahlua decided it was her turn to try out said bone. Mind you, the thing is the size of Kahlua. But she snagged it and went to town. Stella was a little concerned, but she was a good girl and shared it with Kahlua. Sweet sisters.

Stella was kind enough to help me with my Fantasy Football team last weekend.

And this is pretty much my favorite video of all time. Kahlua tolerates Stella, but lets her know what’s up if Stella gets too close. Only because Stella is like a giant compared to Kahlua and Stella has floppy paws that would come down on her like a ton of bricks should she get too excited. So Kahlua lets her know who’s boss every now and then. On this particular evening they were actually playing.

And because this song popped into my head - and has continued to stay there once I decided on the title for this post - here is your song for Friday.

A couple special dates

Friday (September 23rd) was a year since we got engaged. You can read our engagement story here. It feels good to be married now! :)

Today is Kahlua's birthday! She's six years old. I was looking back at some pictures of her when she was just a wee thing and boy has she gotten grey around the face!

To celebrate, Kev took her [and Stella] on a long walk today and she got a special bone that she went to town on. I think she's enjoyed her special day. :)

A Girl's Got to Have [Clothing] Options!

Can I just say how happy I am that today is Friday!? It makes me want to do a wiggly happy dance. We have a full weekend coming up, so I'll be sure to fill you in about it come Monday or Tuesday.

SO! Kevin got the new Halo game for the Xbox 360 which I guess is a big deal because a Halo game hasn't come out in a couple years or something. I really don't know, but Kevin has been playing it NON-STOP the past two days. Which I really don't mind because it keeps me from watching TV and allows me to get other things done around the house. Kahlua and I were a little bored last night so we played with her toys in the office. Then I discovered all the outfits I have for her! Oh my...

Now, for me personally, I don't like dressing my dog up. I don't think Kahlua likes it very much either. She looks so uncomfortable and just gives me that look like "Are you serious about this right now??" So the extent of dressing her up includes putting her in a little black fleece during the Winter to keep her warm. I like it because you can hardly tell she has anything on since her fur is black anyways. Plus she can run and jump and be active in it and it doesn't restrict her at all - like some of the other clothes she has.

This was when she was still a puppy, but you get the idea. Precious!

Where was I? Oh yes, we were bored last night and playing so I took all her clothes and decided to try each one on her and take a picture. As I think you'll be able to gather from the pictures, she was NOT thrilled about this production. But she was cute, and because she knows how to sit and stay, the photo shoot went by quick and we were done and all those ridiculous clothes are packed away so she won't have to deal with that again ;) Bear with me and the slew of pictures coming your way...

My mom got her this one Easter. It's yellow with a little chick on it.

We can't forget about her 49er bandanna! Kevin appreciates this. I'll put this on her sometimes when the Niners play. However, when I have they Niners usually lose. Hmmm....

Oh my!

So there you go. Since I don't dress her up, I do like to have options when it comes to her collars, though. Every time I go to the pet store I'll look for a cute collar. I try to go with something that's more gender-neutral because Kevin has a complex when it comes to walking a four-pound Chihuahua in public with a pink collar and rhinestones.

Kawuwah!

The other day I took Kahlua for a walk after work. It was so nice outside and I just needed to be outside after being cooped up in the office all day - and the gym is obviously not outside - so a dog walk it was!

Our house has a couple nice parks nearby, so I took her to one of them, made sure there were no other dogs around, and let her off her leash so she could stretch her tiny legs and run around like crazy. Luckily, she doesn't stray too far from me when she's off her leash. She loves to run circles around me and just goes, and goes and goes!

She was getting pretty tired towards the end and I was just about to hook her leash back on her, when a little girl who was probably two, finally spots Kahlua, jumps off the park swings and makes a bee-line for Kahlua, all while yelling "Puppy! Puppy!" Well, Kahlua is not a fan of small children. If a small child is around she'll just bark at them and cower. I'm not sure if it's because she's not used to someone that small being around her because she's usually only around full-grown adults, but she's not a fan of small people. She'll have to get used to that in the next couple years when we have a little one of our own!

So let me paint a picture of the scenario as the little girl spots Kahlua: Kahlua goes running and barking across the law, the little girl goes running after Kahlua, the little girl's dad goes running after her, and I'm running after all three of them. I was laughing so hard as this was all happening because I could just imagine what this must look like to someone watching this. After a few laps around the grass Kahlua started running towards the street so I yelled her name "Kahlua!" to try and get her back to the grass. As soon as I yelled her name the little girl immediately starts yelling "Kawuwah! Kawuwah!" It was too precious. For one, I couldn't believe how quickly that little girl caught on! And two, she couldn't pronounce her L's yet. LOL!

Kahlua was finally able to make her escape and ran to me and practically crawled up my leg. The little girl soon lost interest once the chase ended, and "Kawuwah" and I headed home.

Usually I'm only worried about other big dogs being around when I take Kahlua for a walk. I guess I need to watch out for toddlers too! ;)
