Cuteness

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I am obsessed with pregnancies and babies. Call me weird, but I am. I love reading blogs about women who are going through pregnancy and raising their cute little ones. I CANNOT WAIT until Kevin and I have a baby, and he is well aware of that. If you don't feel like reading all-things-baby today, then you probably won't like this post.

Right now I am in Los Angeles visiting my bestie, Maygan. Isn't she purty!? That's her fiancé, David.

Maygan's sister, Michelle, had a baby girl, named Kyra, five weeks ago. She is so adorable and has red hair! I love red-headed babies! So before I left for my trip, I went to Babies.R.Us to get a few things for Kyra. I could literally spend hours upon hours in that store! Just looking at a swing I'd want for our future baby, cribs, outfits, bottles, pacies. Like I said: HOURS! However, I was hungry and had to get home for dinner so I was only limited to like, one hour. Ha! I picked out this really cute outfit and it was $27! I've looked at baby clothes before, and I just thought that was too expensive for a baby outfit (it wasn't anything special). Then I spotted the clearance rack and it was amazing.

I got all these items for less than $20!! Score!

The great thing about it too, was that the sizes range from 6 months to 18 months. This way it will give Michelle an extra top to make an outfit out of as Kyra gets older. Now, I'm not a mom, but I've always assumed that when you have a baby, you get a ton of clothes for the baby for their earlier months, like newborn to 9 months, but after that I feel like people forget that the child actually grows and gets bigger. Therefore, I feel like parents don't have as many clothes for their child after about nine months. Am I right in assuming this, parents??? So my thinking was I'd get Kyra some things that she can wear as she grows.

Because I'm obsessed with the cuteness, here are some close-ups of the tops and bathing suit I got for Miss Kyra.

This top has sequins on it! I love sparkles. Size 18 mos.

I *heart* polka dots! Size 12 mos.

I also love onesies. She can pair this with a pair of pink shorts, some pants or a skirt. Size 6-9 mos.

Cute little dress/shirt. Size 24 mos.

Adorable swimsuit. It's brown with pink polka dots and has ruffles! Size 4T. It'll be perfect for summer in a few years!

So those were my finds. I'll fill you in on my trip in a bit. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Weekend Redux

I know it is now closer to the coming weekend than to the prior weekend, but I'd still like to document (the not-so-exciting) occurrences.

Last weekend Kevin and I went to Salinas to visit my family. My dad has been refurbishing an Airstream for the past three-plus years. I think the Airstream is from 1972 and my parents got it for dirt cheap. My dad gutted the entire thing and has been building everything from scratch. It's finally finished, so Kevin and I stayed with my parents over the weekend to help buff the outside of the Airstream. Buffing is hard work! My arms are still sore. Pathetic! We also had dinner on Saturday night with my good friends Michelle and Brandon (I forgot to take pictures of them, doh!) and it was so nice to see them and catch up. Here are some pictures from our weekend :)

Kevin hard at work buffing the Airstream.

My pops working hard finishing up the gas lines under the Airstream. He is so handy!

The dogs sunbathing on the porch. This is pretty much the only time Kahlua allowed Hattie near her.

Self-portrait! Ha!

Hattie was so exhausted on Saturday night from all the company, so I bundled her up like a little burrito!

Wacky Wednesday

Kevin's had his Mac for about three years now and last night I finally sat down to try and figure out how to use the iMovie feature on it. The video below is of Kevin at the wedding we attended a couple weeks ago. He is always the life of the party and I love that about him! The quality isn't the greatest because it was taken with our digital camera.

Just The Two Of Us

What are your middle names?
Nicole and Alexander.

How long have you been together?
Five years and almost four months. Geesh!

How long did you know each other before you started dating?
About a month and a half.

Who asked whom out?
Kevin asked me. Very old-school-like, and said "Will you be my girlfriend?"

How old are each of you?
We're both 27, but I'm six months older than Kevin.

Whose siblings do you see the most?
I think I would say Kevin's siblings. However, I see my brother quite a bit. We both love our families so we try to spend as much time as we can with each side.

Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
I think right now, it's money. Ugh! I hate that money causes issues, but it does. We're pretty much just starting out with lowering our debt and trying to save, which doesn't leave a lot left over for the fun stuff. But we'll get there eventually.

Did you go to the same school?
Yes, but not at the same time. Kevin completed his last couple years at Cal Poly the year after I graduated from there. I ended up getting my MBA while he was finishing up at Poly.

Are you from the same home town?
Nope. I'm from Salinas and he's from Shingle Springs.

Who is smarter?
Ha! Depends on who you ask. Kevin is more street smart. However, I'm pretty book smart and analytical. Meaning, when there is a project (like putting a piece of furniture together) and it has a lot of parts and instructions, I'm the one most likely not to lose my patience and give up on the project. Just sayin'!

Who is the most sensitive?
Me. Kevin has his moments, though.

Where do you eat most out as a couple?
Hanabi Sushi. We probably eat there every other week or so.

Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
St. Thomas. Kevin's uncle lives there and we went a few years ago. It was so nice! His uncle does amazing sailing tours around the islands. If you ever go, you must check him out!

Who has the craziest exes?
Kevin never really had a serious GF until me, so not many crazies from his past. I've had one that was causing me some trouble a few years back, but he's long gone now.

Who has the worst temper?
Ummmm....I'm pretty sure I do. I tend to overreact initially, and then calm down eventually. I often find myself amazed at how calm, cool and collected Kevin is; pretty much all the time. Even when I'm being a b-word to him, he just takes it in stride to let me calm down. It takes a lot for something to get him fired up. I think I've only seen him mad maybe once or twice.

Who does the cooking?
Definitely Kevin. Which I love. I don't get home from work until 6:30, and he gets off at 5 and works right down the road from our house. So he usually has dinner started by the time I get home. He's a much better cook than I am. If I do cook, it's usually a casserole or spaghetti. I do however, LOVE to bake!

Who is the neat-freak?
Me. Me. Me. To the point of obsession, unfortunately.

Who is more stubborn?
I think we both are.

Who hogs the bed?
Kevin and Kahlua! I usually end up with only a sliver of the bed with one leg hanging off the side!

Who wakes up earlier?
I do, but not by choice. I am NOT a morning person. If I had my choice, I wouldn't wake up until 9, but instead I wake up about 5:30 (if I'm going to the gym) or 6:30 (if no gym). Kevin doesn't have to get up until about 7 or 7:15.

Where was your first date?
Our first date was at Cafe Roma in SLO. Kevin refuses to admit it, but he was really nervous. He even gave me a rose! Awww...

Who is more jealous?
Neither of us. There's no reason to be.

How long did it take to get serious?
About a month or so.

Who eats more?
Eeek! Me *embarrassed face.* Kevin's pretty good at portion control, but I can't say the same for myself. Hence, my reason for being on WW. Ha!

Who does the laundry?
I do because my clothes have particular needs. Kevin will sometimes separate the clothes, and he'll fold them. I just hope he keeps that up once we have kids! ;)

Who's better with the computer?
We're about the same. Neither of us are novices, but we can navigate around a 'puter pretty well.

Who drives when you are together?
Depends on which car we take. If it's Kevin's car, he'll usually drive. If it's my car, I will usually drive. Otherwise it's usually Kevin.

Scary

** I just realized that the video is cut off if you're looking at it on my blog page. If you want to see the whole screen, click the YouTube link so it can take you to the YouTube site and you can see the trailer in all it's glory.**

So I saw this trailer yesterday and it looks pretty freaky! I work on the 16th floor of a high-rise in SF and I have to use the elevator multiple times a day and this pretty much scares the bejeesus out of me.

HOWEVER! M. Night Shyamalan produced it which makes me a little leery because his last few movies have left a lot to be desired. I really liked the Sixth Sense and Signs, but the others were just not great (in my opinion).

I'll probably still see this, though. If anything it'll give me a little thrill and a reason for Kevin to laugh at me as I keep my eyes covered the entire time during the movie ;)

Let's just hope it doesn't have some ridiculously stupid twist at the end!

What's in Your Purse?

I saw this on a post a while ago and thought I'd give it a go.

More often than not I'm lugging around my work purse. It's huge because I have a lot I take around with me during the work day. My parents and Kevin got this for me for Christmas a couple years ago.

The following is what you will find in it:

1) Mini umbrella. I work in SF so it's either foggy and cold, or drizzly/rainy, foggy and cold. Must come prepared!
2) Mace. The transit system can be a scary place!
3) Wallet
4) Sunglasses
5) Currently a book entitled "Eat the Cookie, Buy the Shoes" by Joyce Meyer.
6) A speeding ticket that I try to forget about.
7) WW Pocket Guide
8) Happy pills
9) Lotion
10) BART ticket
11) A plastic bag with a napkin in it. Please refer to this post to figure out why I now carry a plastic bag with me on the train. I do not want that happening ever again!
12) Gum
13) Business cards
14) Zipcar card
15) Pass to get me into my building
16) FIVE different types of lip gloss. What can I say? I like variety!
17) Pocket mirror
18) Hand sanitizer. Like I said, the transit system can be a scary place!
19) Tissue
20) Mascara
21) Eyelash curler
22) Blistex
23) Neosporin
24) Midol
25) Band aids - filing can cause paper cuts.
26) Tampon
27) Nail file
28) Aleve
29) Cough drops
30) WW pamphlets
31) Car keys

Wow. I have way more stuff in this thing than I thought I did!

Can I get a what-what!?

I weighed in yesterday at WW and I am down 13 pounds! Woot woot! I only have 12 more pounds to go and I'll be at my goal weight. I feel guilty because I've probably only worked out a total of five days over the past nine weeks, but miraculously I'm still losing some L-B-S's. Just thought I'd share :) Happy Friday!

HAPPINESS

Lately I've found myself truly happy with my life and everything and everyone in it. The reason this is blog-worthy is because it was only a couple months ago when I didn't even want to get out of bed. I didn't want to see anyone, talk to anyone, do anything or go anywhere. I didn't necessarily want to die, but I just didn't want to be existing anymore. I just wanted to stay under the covers all day, everyday and just let life pass me by and not even care.

Crazy talk right?! Ya, I'd say so. Pretty soon it just got to be too much for me (and Kevin). I'd start crying at the most inopportune times and I was so miserable. I finally made an appointment with a therapist. This was a huge deal for me because I would always consider myself as someone who "has it together," and I like to think that other people think that about me too. So when I finally saw someone about my depression I kind of felt like a failure and that this is not something that Kaysie (I sometimes talk to myself in the third person, ha!) should be doing. I was sitting in the doctor's office and watching these people come in and out of there, and you could tell that their minds weren't exactly healthy. The whole time I kept thinking to myself "Kaysie, you do not belong here. You do not belong here." Yet, there I was.

Anyhoo, I saw the therapist. Told her my problems. She confirmed I had a serious case of the blues going on, referred me to a doctor, and he prescribed me some happy pills. Thankfully (and I think the Man upstairs had a hand in this) I didn't have any negative side effects to my happy pills and they've worked out perfectly for me.

Now, I'm not really someone who likes to take medications or pills. When I have a headache I'll usually try home remedies before I take Aleve or Advil or something. It's not really because I think that stuff is bad for me, I just feel like I can deal with it on my own. And I felt the same way about when I was depressed. But there's only so much you can do on your own. Sometimes you have to seek out help.

It's been about two months since I've been on my happy pills and I've honestly never felt happier. However, I can't honestly say that it's all from the happy pills. I've made some major changes in my life over the past couple months; so it could be a combination of both. Either way, things are really, really great. I don't stress so much, I don't get as anxious when I'm faced with social situations, I look forward to seeing and talking to friends, I want to make plans to do things with people, Kevin and I have become much closer through this, and I'm really determined in my job.

This isn't all to say that if you're down you should get drugs and it will make everything better. I think different situations are different for everyone. But so far, I find myself out of nowhere realizing "Wow! I am truly, genuinely and completely happy" and that's such a new thing for me that I get kind of sad thinking that I've just let the past 27 1/2 years of my life pass by without taking full advantage of the opportunities and people in it. Instead of dwelling on this fact though, I've made it a point to start appreciating things more, being proactive with everything (my friendships, my relationship with Kevin, my job, etc.) and not let life live me, but let me live my life - and to it's fullest!

AMEN!

Nailing it down

I wanted to tell you all about this product I use. Whenever I have an event to go to, or I just feel like having my nails look nice for once, I use these temporary false nails by Kiss. I am a nail biter, so I like when I have nice-looking nails, but I hate spending a ton of money on false ones at a salon because I usually never end up liking them. But these ones also work out great. They are not for long-term use by any means. You can wear them for about a week and then you'll want to take them off. Every time I wear them I always get compliments on how nice my "manicure" is and people will ask me where I get them done. I tell them I get them from Target for about $7! Ha! So they're cheap and you don't have to wear them for a long time and they look great (in my opinion).

This picture is after three days and they still look like new. I get the petite/real short length because I type all day at work and it's hard to type if my nails are too long. I used to use the Broadway nails brand, but the white would always chip off. So far there hasn't been any chipping with the Kiss brand. They have different color varieties, and I usually get the ones that are a little more pink, rather than the tan/skin color type.

If you need a quick "manicure," I'd definitely recommend these!

*No, I am not getting paid for this recommendation. I'm not that popular! ;)

Wedding Bells!

Unfortunately, not mine. Ha! Kevin and I attended a wedding last weekend. His good friend Bryce was getting married to Dana. It was such a fun time! It wasn't too over the top and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere about the whole thing. I don't think I've ever had that much fun at a wedding before! I did however, drink way too much champagne (and beer and wine), but that's beside the point, really.

Here are some pictures from the big day. I got a lot of compliments on my dress and it was so comfortable. Until someone bumped into someone else and they spilled their glass of beer all over the right side of me. Ya...I wasn't so comfortable after that. I think the dress is silk so I'll have to take it to the cleaners to see if they can save it. Other than that, it was still a fun time!

Donner Trip

Yes, this is about three weeks old, but my computer has decided that it will no longer allow the Internet to work. Soooo...I'm now getting around to posting about our mini-vacay to Donner.

It was a great trip! The weather was perfect (about 75-78) and the company was even better. Here are some pictures from our long weekend.

On our way!

Kahlua was excited :) She really doesn't ride in the car like this. We were stopped at In-N-Out at this point.

The cabin that we stay at when we're in Donner. It's wonderful!

The views.

Kevin's mom and sister.

Kevin and me enjoying some vino.

Kahlua had a little to much wine that night ;)

Big boy Jeff!

Kahlua's first time in the lake. She did not enjoy it. Ha!

We're having a heart-to-heart about her "swimming" experience. ;)

Beautiful!

A little R & R.

Jeff keeping watch.

Kevin wake surfing.

And that was our trip! I can't wait until we can go back during Winter and snowboard. It's so nice that Kevin's uncle built the cabin and the whole family can enjoy it during all the seasons :)
