Baby Pino: 10 Weeks

How far along: 10 weeks

Total weight gain/loss: Zero pounds. With the amount I've been eating since I found out I was pregnant (and some not very healthy meals) I for sure thought that each week I would've gained weight; but apparently it's all going to Baby Pino at this point. I'm not complaining!

Size of baby: The little one is the size of a kumquat.

Gender: Don't know yet, but hopefully we'll be able to find out in about six weeks. From the beginning I've always felt it was a boy, but of course we'll be happy with either boy or girl.

Movement: None so far, but with the way he was moving around on the screen at my first ultrasound I don't think it'll be long before I start feeling little flutters.

Sleep: I have good nights and bad nights. More often than not I sleep through the night and wake up once to pee. The bad nights I toss and turn a lot. I haven't been able to sleep on my stomach since about eight weeks. I think I need to invest in a body pillow soon.

Maternity clothes: My bump started showing itself at eight weeks. I don't have stomach muscles (and if I did they were puny). Not something I'm proud of, but it is what it is. So I've started showing a lot earlier than most of my other girlfriends who are pregnant. To that end, I need to make a trip to a maternity store this weekend to get some maternity work pants. All my pants no longer fit and I can't stand the Bella Band. It is so uncomfortable and confining to me. I wear dresses most of the time for work and when I'm home and on the weekends I wear stretchy pants, a sports bra and a t-shirt. Sexy...

Symptoms: Still have nausea, although it's not an all-day occurrence at this point. It comes in heavy, sporadic waves. I've also been experiencing headaches after I eat a meal. My doctor has suggested I take the glucose test early to rule out diabetes (it runs on my dad's side of the family). Not looking forward to that.
Oh, and I am super irritable. It is really hard for me to be around a lot of people all at once. The loudness and people's attitudes just seem to get on my last nerve. I hate I'm like this right now and hope it'll pass.

Aversions: Vegetables: the thought of them and the smell of them cooking makes me gag. Sodas and juice: they all seem too sweet to me.

Cravings: Otter Pops (they are so tasty and cool!); McDonald's sausage egg McMuffin: I had it yesterday morning and it was gooooood! (no judgies); I saw a picture of Cocoa Puffs on Instagram and I now must have them; Orange juice: I just this week started craving really cold orange juice; very cold water; Cheez-It's; Rainbow sherbet (only Baskin Robins will do); My mom's spaghetti (which I got over the weekend).

What I miss: Not a thing. I've wanted to experience pregnancy for as long as I can remember and I'm basking in every little thing (good and bad).

Best moment this week: Not necessarily baby-related, but finally being in our house! We are all moved in. It's going to take me a sweet forever to unpack all our boxes and not being about to lift anything or move furniture is killing me (and having to sit and rest every 30 minutes), but we'll get there eventually. I keep walking into rooms and imagining Baby Pino crawling/walking around and getting into things.

What I'm looking forward to: Once the house stuff settles down, concentrating on the little one more. Also, getting some pants that fit this weekend!

Baby Daddy: A few weeks ago Kevin and I were having a conversation with a couple people about the baby and Kevin literally thought babies were born with teeth. Meaning, protruding teeth. It was so funny when I had to break the news that they in fact are not born with teeth. That those come later once outside of the womb. He tried to play it off like he was just joking, but I know him. ;)
(He's going to kill me for documenting that.)
Kevin is deathly afraid we'll have a girl. He feels like he won't be able to bond with it if she's a girl. Which I think is ridiculous. Either way the Babe will have him wrapped around his/her little finger.

First World Decor Conundrum

Thank you everyone for all the sweet words and congratulations!! It means so much to us. :)

I have a non-baby-related question to ask you.

Seeing as we're moving in TWO DAYS I'm trying to get a couple rooms decorated. One being the main bathroom, the other being the guest bedroom.

For the bathroom I'm aiming for something to this effect. The double panels to frame the bathtub. I feel like it looks so homey and welcoming.

I have had a heckofatime trying to find a cloth shower curtain with the grommets in them (in the color I want). In fact, I have had no luck. But while at TJ Maxx today I had the idea to just use curtain panels instead of cloth shower curtains. I found some in a teal color that I was aiming for. It ended up being a lot cheaper than purchasing two shower curtains, and since they aren't (hopefully) going to get that wet, they work.

So anyways, my question is: since I still plan to have a plastic shower curtain in the tub (but hid behind the curtains when not in use) do I hang two shower curtain rods??? I feel like it would look kind of funny. I got a thick brown-looking rod for the curtains, but what would I get for the actual shower curtain?

Not too sure how to go about that. Real first world problems here, people. ;)

Thank you!!

And then there were three...

Remember when I told you it's been a crazy month or so? Well, I wasn't kidding.

July 27th we found out our offer on our house was accepted.

The morning of July 30th I took a pregnancy test and finally got a positive!

August 6th was our one year anniversary.

August 28th we closed on our home.

August 31st we had our first prenatal appointment and we got to hear the most beautiful sound ever -- a strong, healthy heartbeat coming from our Little Bug.

If you've been a reader of this blog for a while, you have probably figured out that we didn't get pregnant right off the bat (like I thought we would). Of course, looking back now I see why it wasn't a good time for us before and as always He has a better plan than I ever could've dreamed of.

However, I realize it didn't take us long to get pregnant in the grand scheme of things and compared to others who struggle with infertility. But even so, I know what it's like to want something so bad that it hurts. For that reason I won't ever take for granted this little blessing. Even if Little Bug is the only child we ever have, I will be forever grateful because I know the heartache of that want and I know the joy of finally being blessed with it.

With that being said, I'd like to finally re-cap the past month of my pregnancy.

The morning of July 30th I was only one day late. A couple months prior I had been five days late and got negative after negative pregnancy tests. Talk about a bummer! So when I got up at 4am to pee on that Monday morning, I figured 'What the hell? I'll just go ahead and use this last pregnancy test. I know I'm not pregnant anyways.'

So I pee on the stick, set it aside to wash my hands. I pick up said stick and look at it and for the first time EVER the "no" was not in front of "pregnant." I seriously could not believe it. I looked in the mirror at myself (which was kind of a scary sight considering I just rolled out of bed) rubbed my eyes, looked back at the stick and looked at myself in the mirror again and just chuckled.

Then I started shaking. I think it was shock. So I take the stick, go into our room, crack the closet door and turn the closet light on so I wouldn't blind Kevin and I whisper his name, "Kevin." He doesn't wake up. "Kevin." He wakes with a start and says "What? What's wrong?" and I say "I'm pregnant." And he says "What?" and I said "I'm pregnant." And then he chuckled opened his arms and I hugged him and started bawling and we had our little moment.

After I was able to settle down I didn't really know what else to do with myself. Given that it was 4am I crawled back into bed and my heart was beating so fast. For the next two hours I wasn't able to fall back to sleep and I started thinking about this little baby; and worrying about if we would be able to swing buying a new home and having a baby all within an eight month span, and what if this home fell through? Then what would we do? So basically, I started worrying immediately. Ha!

So I prayed. I prayed A LOT. I prayed that most importantly the baby would be healthy and survive. Especially, during all this stress of trying to close escrow on the house. I tend to be one of those people that thinks the worst of things. I can't help it but I'm working on it.

As for the past five weeks I'll tell you that weeks four through six I felt great! I didn't really feel pregnant at all, except for the fact that I had to pee constantly, my boobs hurt and I was hungry all the time. I thought 'This is easy! I can totally do this for eight more months - and probably like two more times!' Such a naive girl I was am.

Week six hit and so did the nausea. Nothing sounded good to me at all. All the books and advice online say to make sure to eat many small meals throughout the day, but when nothing sounds good what do you do??? The only way I can describe it is you know that feeling the day after a good partying and you're hungover? And you know you should eat something to help with that feeling in your gut but you just can't figure out what to eat that would make you feel better? Or if you could just throw up you'd feel so much better? That's how I've felt 24/7. However, I have yet to vomit. So I consider myself lucky in that respect.

At about seven-and-a-half weeks the exhaustion hit me like a ton of bricks. I pretty much have to take a nap every day, and if I don't get a nap in I am not fun to be around come evening-time. And when I do take naps I could literally sleep from that point on until the following day. It hasn't happended yet, but I have no doubt I could make it work. ;) Ha! I've been going to bed about 9 o'clock each night (which is early for me - I'm usually an 11 o'clock or 12 o'clock kind of gal).

Once eight weeks hit I finally got my appetite back, somewhat. I still have some days where I just can't stomach anything, but I've learned that as long as I don't think about the food too much (like what it looks like, the texture and smell) that I can just eat it and move on.

So today I am nine weeks pregnant. My due date is April 8th.

I refer to this little blob as "he" and I will until I'm told otherwise. I just feel in my gut he's a "he." And if he isn't and we end up with a precious little girl, I'll be just as thrilled. I refer to this little guy as Little Bug or Bug. My dad calls me Bug and I just feel like it's fitting for this little one too.

Kevin has been a dream! He is so excited and has been trying to do anything he can to make sure I'm comfortable and taken care of. I know he's going to be the best dad.

Next week I'm going to start my weekly updates. I always enjoy reading other ones and I'd like to keep a record for myself and my family.

Thank you to everyone who has been so excited for us. We are so grateful for all the great wishes ya'll have sent our way.

Here's to the next chapter!

We finally did it!

We closed on our new home this evening!

The relief I feel right now is indescribable. Buying a home is stressful!!!

We will be moving next weekend. We would move this weekend but we'd like to enjoy the long weekend with family at Donner.

We are very grateful this all worked out like it did. God had His hand in all of this I'm sure!

Now onto more important things like decorating, blogging and other exciting things coming our way!!

Home Sweet Home

Whew!

I'd just like to state for the record that the past three-and-a-half weeks have been the craziest of my life.

But, one thing at a time.

First, the week of July 16th we began house hunting. Looking for homes is so exhausting (I may have already said that in another post, but it's been so long since I've posted I'll just say it again). The driving from place to place, getting in and out of cars, looking at so many different homes, neighborhoods, kitchens and beyond is very tiring. Kevin and I definitely had our fair share of discussions arguing.

After a couple weeks of looking and probably 40 homes later we finally just narrowed it down to what we wanted; plain and simple. A home that's fairly updated and move-in-ready, in a nice neighborhood, near both of our jobs and big enough for our families to visit.

Lo and behold I found the perfect house on Wednesday, July 25th. I immediately fell in love with it. Unfortunately, Kevin wasn't able to see it with me that day, so he had to come the next day (Thursday). Since I had a feeling he'd like it too, I had our realtor make sure to bring the offer docs with her the next day when Kevin saw it.

As I suspected, he liked it so we made an offer on Thursday, July 26th. Waiting the next 24 hours was pure torture for me. Patient I am not!

On Friday, July 27th at about 4:40pm our realtor called me to deliver to good news that our offer was accepted! Probably the biggest relief ever. Apparently, there were four other offers on the table and some of them were even above our offer price (and we even offered over asking! - it's just the way the market is in this area right now) and the sellers still chose our offer. Yay! I called Kevin to give him the good news.

We are coming up on 15 days into escrow, so we're about halfway there. All the inspections have been cleared. There are a few things that we've requested to be done before we move in, but nothing major.

It's a four bedroom, two bath home on 1/4 acre lot in a good neighborhood that is located exactly halfway between my office and Kevin's office.

So without further ado, here is our future [dream] home!

The formal living/dining/entrance area when you walk in the front door. I can't wait to put a Christmas tree in front of that big, corner window!

The incredibly large backyard (this is only a quarter of it) that will need a lot of TLC

To be honest, this entire escrow process has stressed me out to no end. Today we're supposed to get the appraisal results back and I keep telling myself that once we have that I can relax. But I'm sure I'll find something else to worry about and stress over. Ha!

We're excited!

365 days later...

The weekend of our anniversary, Kevin and I went to Napa to celebrate our first year of marriage.

He surprised me with a hot air balloon ride - which was completely awesome! If you ever have the chance to do that, I highly recommend it. Apparently, there's a lot that has to do with weather and temperature so they're not available everywhere, but it's definitely something you should add to you bucket list.

I'm just going to let these pictures speak for themselves because they are just too amazing not to share.

Us! :)

Can I get an "Amen" for the beauty God created!? It was breathtaking.

For my gift to Kevin, I got him a private golf lesson on Sunday. He was a fan. :)

In between all that we did a lot of eating, napping and a little wine tasting.

It was great to get away for a weekend and spend some time together. On one hand it feels like we've been married for more than a year, and on the other hand it feels like our wedding day was just yesterday! It's been a year full of tears, stress, changes, laughter, surprises and love and I wouldn't want to spend all that with anyone other than my Kevo.

Flashback Friday - Wedding Edition

I haven't done one of these in a while, so I looked back to around this date last year and apparently we were one week from getting married!

Here's the post I did for that Friday.

It's funny how as your life goes by and you evolve, what you think was important then may not seem like it is so much now. For example, all that worrying I was doing in the week leading up to our wedding was not worth it. Everything turned out fine and our day was perfect.

I should give myself the same advice now for our home buying process. Ha!

I hope you all have a great weekend and you're able to soak up this last weekend of July. Time goes by way too fast!

Hugs,
