Hospital = Waiting = Draining

Hey all.

I hope you had a nice weekend. Mine was a little draining, to be perfectly honest. Mom got through her surgery just fine (thank you for all the prayers) and I was able to help Dad take care of her. She's doing surprisingly well, so that made me feel good when I had to leave to come back home yesterday.

I would just like to say this: for those of you who have experienced loved ones in the hospital for any period of time - whether it be a day, a month, or possibly a year - I have so much respect for you. A hospital is a draining place. I think the thing that gets to me the most is the waiting. Waiting to be admitted, waiting for the procedure or surgery to be over, waiting to heal, waiting to make sure infection doesn't set in, waiting to be discharged. It's just a whole bunch of WAITING and I am not good with that at all. So to those of you who have had to experience that, I got a very tiny sense of what you've been through and I don't know how you've done it. With God's grace is the only way I can think of.

Speaking of hospitals, my very good friend is in the hospital. I can't go into details about who she is and why she's in there, but please keep her in your prayers that everything goes well. I can't stop thinking about her and I just want everything to go smoothly.

So needless to say, I am drained today. Emotionally and physically (I haven't been eating much lately). I'm hoping this week that I can re-charge and get back into the groove of everything. :)

God Bless,

Flashback Friday and update on Mom

It's been a year while since I've done a Flashback Friday post. So I took a look back to what I blogged about this time last year, and apparently I shared with you all my intense fear of earthquakes. And just so you know, this fear has remained. And that backpack full of emergency items that I said I would keep at work in the case of an earthquake and I was stranded in San Francisco with no way to get home to my fiancé and dog? It has yet to be packed. Ha!

Thank you for your sweet prayers and comments for Mom. A little update on on her surgery: the doctor said she did great and everything went well. She's still in the hospital, but hopefully she'll be able to come home today. She's dealing with lots of nausea and pain right now, so I'm hoping they'll be able to get all that under control before she gets to come home. I'm going to have her bed all comfy for her with a pretty vase of flowers by her bedside when she gets here. :) There really is no place like home.

Enjoy your weekend,

Wednesday Stuff (and a little prayer request)

1. Our wedding is in four months!!! *excited*

2. I think I had a migraine last night while I was asleep. I woke up with a doozy of a headache this morning and have felt so nauseous. Therefore, I'm taking today off early, thankyouverymuch.

3. Maygan and I have been planning each other's bachelorette parties. We wanted to keep it a secret from each other so we'd be surprised when it came, but we just can't. Ha! So we've been sharing our ideas with each other and it's been so fun. Mine will be in Sonoma in July and Maygan's will be in Long Beach in September. Both will be so different but so FUN! I cannot wait.

4. Last night Kev and I went to sushi for dinner, then stopped by the fro yo shop for a little dessert. Then we went home and got in bed with our fro yo at approximately 7:30 in the PM and laid there enjoying our fro yo and watched The Simpsons. We lead an exciting life dontchaknow. ;)

5. I woke up this morning thinking it was the weekend. Imagine my surprise when I came-to and realized that it was in fact only Wednesday.

6. In addition to thinking it was not only the weekend, I also thought for a brief moment upon waking up that it was Friday, and I was sad because I wouldn't be able to talk to Maygan over Google Chat today because she has this Friday off. And so do I for that matter, so I was in quite the stupor waking up this morning, wasn't I?

7. Kevin and I are putting our finances together next month. I'm kind of nervous - and I don't really know why because we're not big spenders - but I'm ready. With all these wedding expenses coming up it's just going to be so much easier to have expenses coming out of one account soon.

8. Remember the other day when I said our wedding planning was going so well? I think I spoke too soon. The night I made that post to my blog, I checked our website for our wedding invitations and they are OUT. OF. STOCK! I may or may not have had a mini panic attack. So at 9:30 that night I had to go searching for some damask invitations that weren't going to cost us an arm and a leg. I ended up finding some that will work out fine. Whew! Remind me not to get too cocky about the wedding planning stuff again, m'kay?

9. Last weekend I spent a good amount of time looking online for a few dresses (one for Easter, one for my shower in May and one for my shower in June) and I had some issues with making decisions. Then I decided to just take a gander at my closet to see what I had in there. I pulled out two dresses that I wore once last year and tried them on and they are cute! Last year I was 20 pounds heavier so in my mind I still feel like I'd look like I did then when I wear those dresses. But I don't. So I only had to order one dress and I was stoked. :)

10. This is probably the most important point out of this entire list -- my mom is having surgery tomorrow afternoon and will have to stay overnight at the hospital. If you happen to think about it, will you say a little prayer for her that everything goes well and that she's not in too much pain afterwards? I'd really appreciate it. I'm a worried mess (even though the surgery is pretty routine) and my nerves have been on edge all week. Thank you, friends.

xoxo ~

Showing a Little Bloggy Love

I've become pretty good Bloggy and Tweet friends with K over at Two Adults, One Brown Baby. Wanna know how I came across her blog? You know that link up at the top of Blogger there that says "Next Blog?" I was just browsing through random blogs about a year ago and came across K's and have been hooked ever since. Her family is pretty darn cute! :) I love her posts and sense of humor about things, and she has a strong little girl, Iris, who has a pretty inspiring story. You should check out K's post from today. :)

Also, Shannon from Bless our Nest just posted the cutest (and cheapest!) idea EVER for adding a little Spring decor to your home. Genius!

Lastly, Jenni from Story of My Life is having an ah-mazing giveaway going on. I really shouldn't share that link with you because I really want the purse for myself, and the more people that enter, the less chance I have of winning. ;) But I like to share. Ha!

What blogs are you loving on this fine Monday??

Eating Pictures and Taking Cakes...err...Taking Pictures and Eating Cakes!

There you go!

I hope you all are enjoying your weekend. :)

Yesterday, we had our engagement photos and they went great! Our photographers didn't take too many pictures (I was expecting them to take like 300), but I think they got more than enough and our location was beautiful! We had a backdrop of a lake and lots of greenery. The weather wasn't sunny, more overcast, but I've heard that overcast makes great photos, so that worked out. We're not really doing anything with these photos once we get them, except putting one in the newspaper in our home towns, and then we're getting an 11x17 print for free with our photo package. So it's not like we need a perfect one to send out save-the-dates for, because we're not doing those. But I still hope we get a few that turn out good. Kahlua was in some of the pictures. Our photographers were cracking up at how small she is. Ha!

Right after our picture session, we headed to Ettore's to do a little cake tasting! We were able to taste eight different kinds of cakes.

They were all pretty good. Kevin and I are not big fans of chocolate (I know...I know...we're weird like that, ha!) so we didn't care too much for the three chocolate cakes we tasted. It ended up coming down to the Strawberry White Chocolate cake (which was so good), UNTIL we tried the the Red Velvet cake. Oh my heart be still! The Red Velvet cake was TO. DIE. FOR! Best Red Velvet cake I've ever tasted. Hands down.
This was what was left of the Red Velvet cake after we were finished with it. We ate it so fast, because it was so good, I didn't get a before shot! Luckily, they let us take another home for the road. :)

There was no question after tasting the Red Velvet that that was our cake. And what's even better? I goes with our black, white and red theme! :) We're getting an incredibly good deal on the cake thanks to my MIL, so the whole process was so quick and easy. I think I'll leave the design of the cake a secret until the Big Day. :)

After our cake tasting Kevin and I were talking about how easy this wedding planning stuff has been, and just our luck the day of the wedding everything that could go wrong, will go wrong. Haha! It's been such a breeze to do this with Kevin and I'm enjoying every bit of it!

April 1st Has Fooled Me (yet again)

How many of you have fallen for an April Fools joke today? *raising hand* I have, and I may or may not have fallen for an April Fools joke more than once and it's only noon.

This is the warning I gave Kevin this morning:

I don't like to be a poor sport, or a party pooper, or a Debbie Downer, but I really do believe anything and everything. I take things to heart rather quickly. Every time I've had an April Fools joke pulled on me, where plans suddenly changed or something like that, I've tended to freak out overreact. I'm nothing if not a planner, and if a kink gets thrown into my chain I can't handle it. Not to mention the fact of feeling incredibly dumb after I fell for it.

Oh well, it's only one day out of the year. I think I can cope. ;)

Hope you all have a great weekend and that you get good weather to enjoy!

XOXO,
