Saturday Fun

Saturday was a pretty busy day. I started it out with a little walk jog around my parents' neighborhood. This view is just around the corner from their house; essentially their backyard.

It was a great view to enjoy that morning. Salinas is mostly made up of fields like this (along with gangs and violence, but that's another post for another day) and it's known as "The Salad Bowl of America." That's right folks, most of your produce comes from my backyard! ;)

That night we had Grandma Ruth over for dinner and had a mini birthday celebration for my dad and me. My birthday was on December 28th and my dad's birthday is on January 13th. We had some great kabobs!

I also made a cake. This cake isn't very pretty, and I usually do a lot better with the decorating-of-cakes task, but I was tired. It wasn't until we lit the candles and all got ready to sing "Happy Birthday" that we noticed that Dad is exactly twice my age! Haha!

Later that night I was able to have a few or four or five drinks with Alison. We had such a great time catching up and talking weddings!

Her fiancé, Ken, showed up later on. He's a big fan of the high fives. ;)

It was so nice to catch up with Alison, and get to know Ken a little more. I haven't laughed as much as I did that night in a long time!

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend!

Much love,
Kaysie

Baby Talk

Today I had the pleasure of spending time with this lovely lady and her two little girls! Well, technically the little girls are still in her tummy but I'm sure they enjoyed breakfast just as much as we did! Ha!

BFF Michelle

Since Michelle and her hubby are expecting twins, I wanted to get her something special. And this is what I found...

They're two pink, Swarovski pearls in a little silver pea pod that hangs from a silver necklace. I thought it was just precious and Michelle loved it too!

I found it on Etsy here.

I also got to see her fur baby, Milo. Last time I saw Milo he was a little bitty puppy! He is such a sweet boy and all grown up now. I wanted to steal him! ;)

Michelle and I were able to catch up on so much during this visit; my wedding (that she will be a bridesmaid in) and most importantly her pregnancy and babies!!! I was able to ask her all kinds of questions about her pregnancy, nursery ideas, names, etc. I even got to feel her belly! I've said it once and I'll say it again: I love me some babies! :)

It was so nice to spend some good quality time with a good quality friend. Tomorrow night I get to spend time with another great friend, Alison. She's getting married about a month after me so I can't wait to talk about wedding stuff with her!

Hope you all have enjoyed your Friday!

God bless,
Kaysie

Testing

I'm trying out posting from my phone. Looks like I can do all sorts of things like cross words out, bold, italicize and change colors.
Technology is a wonderful thing! :)

Oh, and here's a cute pic of my parents' dog, Hattie, snoozing away. She obviously doesn't find me very exciting. Ha!

Bieber [HAIR] Fever

So. I'm not a huge fan of the teeny-bopper artists performers that are out there at the moment. Miley Cyrus? No thanks. Selena Gomez? Don't really know who she is. Justin Bieber? I just don't get the "fever" he induces. Granted, this would probably all be different if I had a younger sibling or children who were into these performers, but I don't so I'll continue to be in the dark when it comes to these young stars.

One thing I do know is that this hairstyle that is going around with young boys/guys is something that just boggles my ever-loving mind!

(Disclaimer: If you have a brother/cousin/boyfriend/dad/husband or what have you that sports this 'do, I apologize if this is offensive to you. You don't have to read if you don't want to). ;)

Where was I? Oh yes...

Case in point...

I guess what I don't understand about this whole mane event is that the hair is all in the eyes and on the face. It looks as if it has to be blown dry in a downward fashion to get it to lay just so. And apparently in order to maintain this style, a flick of the head is involved to get it to whip to the side. For example...

And here are a few others that have followed suit...
Zac Efron

Tom Brady

Even everyday kids are getting in on the action...

The only thing I can attribute this popularity to is that the Beatles' hairstyle is making a strong comeback, with a little twist flick.

I guess I don't have much room to talk, considering us women can at times resort to any and all measures to have our tresses lookin' fi-ine! But you won't find my future sons sporting this look if I have any say in the matter. I like my men clean cut!

The End.

Dedicated

*sigh of contentment* It feels good to get back to a random regular post. ;) Ready? Go!

I have a four-day weekend beginning tomorrow! I am tres excited. I didn't really take much time off between Christmas and New Years, and the office was pretty sparse, so we needed some coverage (that's where I came in). So I'm taking Thursday and Friday off and heading down to my hometown. I'm looking forward to sleeping in, doing things on my own time and visiting with friends. :)

So far I have kind of stuck to my goal for 2011. It's only day three but I've been taking my vitamins and exercising. Might I add that I LOATHE exercising? I don't like the exertion of it and I hate the soreness I feel the next two days afterwards. Granted, I love that I have a lot of energy throughout the day because of it (I work out in the mornings) and I sleep pretty well at night; but it's definitely not my favorite activity. Anyways, the other part of my goal of getting to bed at a reasonable hour has not been happening. Hence, I am dragging today and the lack of sleep is getting to me.

Speaking of goals, there have been many resolutions posted about in the blog world since the new year. They have all been very inspiring and I love seeing what everyone sets out to do for the year. However, bloggie friend Lauren posted today about her upcoming year and it is such a great post that I think you all should check it out. Such a great way to have an outlook on a brand new year! :)

Last year was pretty busy, and this year is looking to be even busier! Do any of you use Google Calendar? It really is great. You can sync the calendar with other Google users. So I have my calendar synced with Mom's and BFF Maygan's. Since Maygan and I are both getting married this year, and we're both MOH's in each other's wedding, we have a lot of scheduling to do (bridal showers, baccalaureate parties, etc.). I'm thinking it's going to make our lives a lot easier.

Since Kevin got me the new iPhone for my birthday, I have been obsessing over how great the picture quality is. And what makes the pictures even better is the ShakeIt app!

It turns your photos into kind of a Polaroid look, and you also get the option of adding a border around the photo. Let me provide you with some visuals...

And here are some pictures I took on NYE...

Look at that detail!

I have so much to get done today at Workplace. After I finish this blog post, check my personal emails, Twitter and FB, I'm going to get crack-a-lackin' on it all. Priorities people. I'm dedicated like that.

2010 in Review - and Moving on...

Looking back, I'd have to say that 2010 was a pretty darn good year. However, if you had asked me in April/May of 2010, I would have told you that I was having the worst year of my life. Funny how things change...

At that time I was dealing with some depression and anxiety that was making it hard for me to function. My relationship with Kevin was suffering, my relationship with friends was suffering and I was suffering. So, I sought out some help from some professionals, got prescribed some happy pills and made a few lifestyle changes and I think it was the best thing I have ever done. That happened for a reason though. I think I was at the lowest of lowest, and now being at my happiest of happiest, and most content, I am so much more self-aware of my emotions that I can quickly put myself in "check" and work on myself without letting things get out of hand.

I think for everyone, life gives you a lot of hard times to deal with, and a lot of happy times to enjoy. Last year my Grandma Hank had her leg amputated due to her Diabetes. It was a hard time for my family. But she pulled through it and she continues to improve. It was a traumatizing time for her (and for us) but something like that happened for a reason and I think part of that reason was to help in pulling my family together.

Kevin's grandfather is slowly falling victim to Alzheimer's. This past year we have been lucky enough to spend time with him and enjoy special moments with him that we will remember forever. The sad thing is that his grandfather won't remember. I hate Alzheimer's. My grandpa is in his final stages of it. Over the year my grandpa's condition has gotten progressively worse. I don't visit him often, because it is very difficult. Over Thanksgiving Kevin and I went to see him and I felt like I was going to have a nervous breakdown. It was one of the most difficult things I've had to experience in my life, thus far. We went to his room, and he didn't know anyone. Not even his own daughter - my mom. And he started shaking. And he started crying. He can no longer talk so it was just heartbreaking. Part of me wishes that I didn't go see him that day because now whenever I think of him, I have that heart-wrenching picture in my mind of him. But that visit happened for a reason and I think part of that reason was to allow me to spend as much time as possible with Kevin's grandfather while he is still (mentally) here. And I cherish that time like no other.

While some difficult things happened last year, good things also took place. Kevin and I were able to spend an amazing vacation with my family in September. It was probably one of the most special vacations I can remember. And it doesn't hurt that Kevin also proposed during that vacation - one of the most happiest moments of my life! Last year I also reconnected with some girlfriends from high school and it has been wonderful! Even though they don't live in the same town I do, we're still able to find times to meet up or stay connected. And the thing I love the most? We pick up right where we left off - like there were never nine years of being out of touch between us. Friendship is a beautiful thing, I tell ya'! :)

Kevin's and my relationship has grown tremendously over the last year. Our first year living together was a tough one. We not only had to deal with new jobs and living in a new town - but we had to deal with EACH OTHER! It was a big adjustment for us. Last year we were able to concentrate more on our relationship. We've become much closer and we tackle problems head-on. We've also made it a point to really be honest when it comes to things that our on our mind. Whether it's saying "I love you" or voicing something that may annoy us - either way, this honesty has really helped us.

And lastly, starting this blog has been a great outlet for me. I enjoy writing - and I enjoy reading. So this hobby has far exceeded my expectations. In the process I've also developed some friendships with fellow bloggers from different states and I am so thrilled about these connections. This blogging world has taken me out of my own little bubble and has shown me that there are sometimes far more serious things going on out in this world, other than my bad day. It really puts things in perspective.

As for my resolutions from last year, I pretty much met all of them - which is a major FIRST! I learned how to snowboard (however, I can't say that I really enjoy it all that much). I joined a Fantasy Football League and I actually won 3rd place! Woo hoo! I made a resolution to lose 25 pounds, but I only lost 20. I am more than pleased with that though. Those last five pounds are coming off this year and I better keep them off!

As for this year, I don't really have any resolutions. I have one goal though, and that is to get healthy. Take my vitamins, get to bed at a decent hour and exercise consistently. My goal is to make all of this a habit and a part of my every day routine.

So there you have it. Last year was the best of years and the worst of years for me. But looking back on it all now, there are reasons for everything. One of my favorite things is to see things come full circle and I believe that happened for me last year.

I hope you all have a blessed 2011 and are able to make the most of the hard times and the best of the good times.

God bless,

My Wish For You In 2011

May peace break into your home and may thieves come to steal your debts.

May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet for $100 bills.

May love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips!

May happiness slap you across the face and may your tears be that of joy.

May the problems you had, forget your home address.

In simple words...

May 2011 be the best year of your life!

The End. :)
